Helical and Crosstree agree new lease with leading Peruvian restaurant

Helical Bar and Crosstree Real Estate Partners (“Crosstree”) announce the letting of the ground floor at their iconic building Empire House, formerly the historic Alexandra Trust Dining Rooms, a part of their office and retail scheme The Bower, at Old Street and City Road, London EC1 – to Ceviche, the UK’s leading Peruvian Kitchen and Pisco Bar.

Founded by renowned Peruvian chef, restaurateur and award-winning author Martin Morales, Ceviche has agreed a 25-year lease for the entire 3,500 sq ft ground floor space of Empire House where it will open its second London restaurant. Following on from recent lettings to Z Hotels and Gymbox, Ceviche Old St is an exciting new addition to The Bower’s growing and unique retail, leisure and restaurant offering, adding to its appeal as a destination.

The 3.12 acre site adjacent to the Old Street Roundabout that Helical Bar and Crosstree acquired in December 2012 for £60.75 million, comprises over 230,000 sq ft of office space and 46,000 sq ft of retail space across three separate buildings – Empire House, 207 and 211 Old Street, collectively known as The Bower.

Further to receiving planning consent in 2013, work has fully commenced on site and completion of Phase 1, The Warehouse (122,000 sq ft) and The Studio (18,500 sq ft), is expected in Spring 2015. The Bower continues to be a sought after destination for high-end creative businesses and the Company expects to be able to announce further lettings in due course.

Martin Morales, Chef and Founder of Ceviche, commented:

“The ground floor of the former Alexandra Trust Dining Rooms is an East London restaurant landmark steeped in history and personality. With Ceviche Old St we aim to restore it to its former glory and combine this with the exciting and innovative Peruvian food and drinks that people love us for.”

Gerald Kaye, Development Director, Helical Bar, said:

“Ceviche Old St is a fantastic addition to the line-up of creative and popular tenants that we already have on site. Attracting Ceviche to The Bower clearly demonstrates our success in continuing to create a new vibrant restaurant and retail destination in Old Street.”
